The one that does not exist

A bomb attack in Umeå prompts the daughter of Inspector Roland Fransson to challenge both her father and the powers that be in search of the truth.

When a crowded plane outside Umeå explodes in a bomb attack, the exhausted Inspector Roland Fransson is no longer in charge of the investigation. Säpo takes over. But his daughter Anna doesn’t give him any slack and he is unwittingly drawn into the case anyway. One of those killed in the attack is Per Vretling - someone who Anna just had booked an interview with and who had revealed some unpleasant truths about the Umeå Religious Free School. While getting to know Per Vretling's widow Sonja, Anna also arranges a meeting with the one person she believes most likely to be behind the attack: the free school owner. The only problem is that he is in Dubai. However, Anna will not let this stop her and she persuades Sonja, Roland and his girlfriend Lisa to join her on a holiday trip there. Not really a vacation of course. In fact, it soon develops into a game of cat and mouse with the intelligence services of the superpowers. A political power play is at hand that may prove to be too big a challenge even for the unusually sharp young girl from Västerbotten.

Mikael Andersson, born in 1966 in Umeå, works as a general practitioner and eye surgeon. He lives in Umeå with his wife and two teenage sons. The family's hobbies revolve around the great outdoors and sports. Also, since childhood various construction projects at home as well as long European camping holidays have been a part of his extracurricular activities. Västerbotten has been the homestead of his family for generations and his crime novels are clearly inspired by the nature, landscape and history of this his place of origin.

The one that doesn’t exist is the second book in Andersson’s series The Västerbotten Murders.
